ROLAND BRECEK started his career as a registered representative and sales manager for TEACHERS MANAGMENT & INVESTMENT CORPORATION, a regional broker dealer, from 1983 until 1992.  He then went on to manage the largest sales office for TRANSAMERICA FINANCIAL RESOURCES, a national broker dealer.  Soon after, Roland co-founded BRECEK & YOUNG FINANCIAL SERVICES GROUP INC, a registered investment advisory firm.  In 1996, Roland co-founded a second firm, BRECEK & YOUNG ADVISORS INC, an independent broker dealer/registered investment advisory firm.  Under his leadership as CEO and President, his firm was named Broker Dealer of the Year five times by Investment Advisor Magazine, a trade journal for financial planners.  With the assistance of Bentley Associates, Mr. Brecek sold Brecek & Young in 2004, but he continued to manage the firm until 2008. He earned his B.S. degree from the UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON and his M.S. from WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY.

PHILIP ERARD has 40 years of diversified investment banking experience, principally working with middle market companies on both merger/acquisition and financing assignments, including debt, equity and limited partnership interests. In the latter category, he has raised over $450 million of private equity for various general and specific purpose investment partnerships. In the merger/acquisition and private placement areas he has arranged transactions and raised significant amounts of capital for sectors as diverse as pulp and paper, industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, media, telecom and telecom equipment, hotels and textiles. Mr. Erard began his career at LOEB, RHOADES & CO as a security analyst and became full-time corporate finance specialist in 1965. In 1972 he was made a general partner. For 20 years, he worked as a senior level investment banker at SCHRODER & CO. and its U.S. predecessors SCHRODER WERTHEIM and WERTHEIM & CO. before joining Bentley in 1998 as a Managing Director. Over the years he has served on numerous corporate and non-profit boards, including the Overseers Visiting Committee of Harvard College and the Lowell Observatory of Flagstaff, Arizona. He is also active in the American Alpine Club and currently serves as Chairman of its New York Section. He earned a B.A. from HARVARD COLLEGE and an M.B.A. from the HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL. Mr. Erard became Senior Advisor in 2017.

EDWARD “JIM” FOLEY, III , a Senior Advisor since 2008, joined Bentley in 1998 as a Managing Director and established the firm’s real estate and lodging industry practice. Mr. Foley began his career with JONES LANG WOOTTON (now JLL) in 1977, where he was elected a Partner of the firm in 1979. He was responsible for cross-border transactions between Europe and the United States and later directed real estate investment banking operations in the western U.S. In 1986, Mr. Foley joined LEND LEASE REAL ESTATE INVESTMENTS, as head of Boston Financial Real Estate Advisors, an institutional real estate investment management firm. Joining J.P. MORGAN & CO. in 1987, Mr. Foley led a team of real estate professionals that invested in real estate equity, mortgages and the securities of private and public real estate companies on behalf of Morgan’s commingled funds and pension fund separate accounts. Mr. Foley completed Morgan’s Organizational Management Program. Over the course of his career, Mr. Foley has been responsible for over $3 billion in real estate-related transactions. Mr. Foley has served actively with several organizations, including The Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He is a former director of Security Capital Realty, Inc., Whitestone Mortgage Capital and USLand LLC. Mr. Foley attended the UNIVERSITY OF MAINE and completed additional studies at HARVARD COLLEGE, MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY and holds a Certificate in Real Estate Finance & Investment from NEW YORK UNIVERSITY.

PAUL HAVILAND has over 30 years experience in Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Finance, working primarily as the senior officer in charge of Corporate Development/M&A for major global corporations as well as leading private equity and M&A advisory firms. He began his career in the Corporate Development Department of THE ALLEN GROUP and subsequently served as the Director of Planning & Corporate Development for GRIFFON CORPORATION. He then became the senior corporate officer in charge of Corporate Development/M&A and Planning for such firms as the BOVIS LEND LEASE, EXELON CORPORATION and STANLEY BLACK & DECKER. He also served as a Vice President and Head of Corporate Development for the operations headquarters of the private equity firm, FORSTMANN LITTLE & CO. Most recently, Mr. Haviland was the Founder/CEO of THE ARTEMIS GROUP, a private equity and M&A advisory firm in Greenwich, CT, where he advised on numerous M&A transactions for corporate and private equity clients, as well as for several wealthy family offices. Mr. Haviland’s deal experience spans numerous industries, but is most heavily concentrated in Diversified Industrials, Energy/Power & Utilities, Consumer Packaged Goods, Construction & Building Materials, Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, and the Restaurant/Food Industry. He is a member of American Mensa. Mr. Haviland received a B.A. from LAFAYETTE COLLEGE, attended the MBA program at HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, and has participated in Advanced Management Program studies at the HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL and through the STANFORD UNIVERSITY EXECUTIVE PROGRAM.

LAWRENCE W. LEIGHTON began his extensive investment banking career at KUHN, LOEB & CO. He then joined CLARK, DODGE & CO. where he became Co-Head of the Corporate Finance Department. Joining NORTON SIMON in 1974 as the Director of Strategic Planning/Mergers & Acquisitions, he was responsible for several significant acquisitions for that company, including Avis Rent-A-Car. Three years later, he returned to Wall Street as a Limited Partner at BEAR, STEARNS & CO., focusing on international mergers and acquisitions. There he represented such major companies as Pernod Ricard. Joining CHASE INVESTMENT BANK in 1982 as a Managing Director, Mr. Leighton continued to focus on cross-border mergers. In 1989, he became President and Chief Executive Officer of UI USA, the US subsidiary of Union d’Ètudes et d’Investissements, the merchant banking arm of Credit Agricôle, the largest bank in France. He joined Bentley in 1997 as a Managing Director. Mr. Leighton is a Board Director of China XD Plastics and China Natural Gas and is on the Board of Trustees of the Waterford Institute and the Gillen Brewer School. He received his B.S.E. degree from PRINCETON UNIVERSITY and an M.B.A. from HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL. Mr. Leighton became Senior Advisor in 2017.

KEITH D. PHILLIPS began his career in 1986 as an Associate in the M&A Department at SHEARSON LEHMAN BROTHERS, ultimately moving to GOLDMAN SACHS, where he was the senior investment banking services banker covering Canada. Moving to MERRILL LYNCH as a Managing Director in 2007, Mr. Phillips served as Head of their Global Basic Industries Team before leaving the firm after six years.  He then served as Managing Director and Headed the Global Mining Teams at BEAR STEARNS and J.P. MORGAN, prior to spending seven years as Head of the Mining Team at the boutique firm of DAHLMAN ROSE (acquired by Cowen & Company in 2013). In late 2015, Mr. Phillips joined MAXIT CAPITAL, a very prominent Toronto-based investment boutique focused exclusively on the metals and mining sector. He joined Bentley as a Senior Advisor in mid-2017 and will also be serving as the new Chief Executive Officer of PIEDMONT LITHIUM, a publicly-traded lithium exploration company. As a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, Keith earned his B.Comm. from LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY and his M.B.A. from The UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO.

SHELLEY M. ZOLER is a senior investment professional with extensive experience in multiple facets of private markets investing. From 1978 to 2011, Ms. Zoler was with TIAA-CREF.   She began her career at TIAA-CREF as in-house counsel responsible for financing documentation and structuring of private financings.  Beginning in 1998, Ms. Zoler was Director of Alternative Investments in which capacity she originated, underwrote and recommended over 50 domestic and foreign fund LP commitments totaling $2.8 billion across all private equity strategies – buyout, venture, energy and financial services.  From 1999 through 2009, Ms. Zoler built TIAA’s distressed portfolio from 6 commitments totaling $155 million to 38 commitments totaling $1.8 billion.  Ms. Zoler also has served on a number of LP Advisory Committees and been a speaker at many industry conferences.  She received her B.A. from STATE UNIVERSITY of NEW YORK at BUFFALO and her J.D. degree from NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL of LAW.
